OBJECTIVE: In this series of drawings, this designer presented Hope Clinic’s management with several options for the composition of the street-facing façade of the facility located at 454 Harriet Street, Ypsilanti, MI, the structure which would be transformed into the Farm Stand. Each arrangement of standard architectural features incorporates Hope’s trademark logo and was designed to complement and extend the style and color scheme of Hope’s existing infrastructure. MORE DETAILS: While the designs presented here are admittedly pedestrian, they nevertheless document the self-directed development of several practical skills. Photographs and precision measuring tools were employed to map the structure in minute detail and generate the base model from which all subsequent Farm Stand projects would extend.
PROFICIENCIES: A series of materials based on photographs were created in SketchUp that accurately reproduce the various color schemes and styles associated with Hope’s existing facilities. Photographs were also used to generate custom textures, such as those used to cover the exterior walls of the structure in concrete blocks.
OUTCOME: In the end, the recommendations presented here were not adopted in full, and a unique color scheme and custom sign were selected. This designer was, however, able to successfully lobby the appropriate stakeholders to adopt substantial changes to the design of the façade, as well as the sign that was eventually executed by Huron Sign of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
NOTE: The trees depicted in this document were obtained from the 3D Warehouse and are accordingly the work of other artists.
