OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to reimagine the layout of Hope Clinic’s food pantry, an effort which sought to maximize the utilization of the limited space available, and to simplify what was a notoriously chaotic pattern of traffic for clients. Several potential layouts were analyzed by this designer, each built around different combinations and arrangements of four basic, custom shelving units that were themselves ergonomically designed for ease of access and the accommodation of specific items, such as canned goods, cereals, and larger household products. PROFICIENCIES: The execution of this project required imagining and winnowing down the various permutations and possibilities, factoring in such considerations as the placement of fixed columns, the optimal aisle width, and the relative preponderance of each category of item. Additionally, the plug-in Twilight was used to model custom lighting and to render many of the scenes in semi-photorealism.
OUTCOME: The layout depicted in this document, albeit one based on commercially available shelving units instead of the recommended custom units, was eventually selected for execution because of cost considerations.
NOTE: While most of the objects presented in this document are original works, some items, such as some of the items found on the shelving units, were obtained from the 3D Warehouse and are accordingly the work of other artists.
